Nashira & Kevin's Vibrant Bali Wedding

Nashira & Kevin’s Vibrant Bali Wedding

05458 360S

With a proposal story that pulls at all of the heartstrings (seriously – we’re talking sunset, candlelight and camels in the Sahara desert), is it any wonder that Nashira and Kevin’s wedding was a completely stunning work of art? Vibrant styling, a gorgeous location, and thoughtful, personal touches all came together for this incredible destination wedding in Bali, celebrating a truly amazing couple.

Set at a boutique private resort The Villa Sanctuary in Canggu, the open grounds and sprawling lawns of the property became the perfect blank canvas for Nashira and Kevin to build their dream wedding from the ground up.

Bohemian luxe was the brief for the day, brought to life with the help of Kira and the team from Hitch’d. Plenty of lush tropical influences and statement floral design created a harmonious flow throughout the styling, from beginning to end. Drawing on Nashira and Kevin’s love of romance, flowers and all things colour, the result was a relaxed celebration filled with creative, beautiful details.

A completely dreamy ceremony setting took place on the lawn, featuring an incredible 4-post arbour bursting with greenery and suspended blooms, while a radiant Nashira and Kevin exchanged vows in front of friends and family. With gold confetti raining down over the newly wed Mr and Mrs Marquez, it was a love-filled beginning to an incredible evening.

Nashira’s description of an ‘epic bamboo teepee’ is a pretty perfect way to sum up the eclectic bohemian vibe that resonated throughout their open-air reception. With a floral wall backdrop, rustic timber tables, stylish ghost chairs, and colourful blooms at every turn, the design was one that truly allowed Nashira and Kevin’s warm and vibrant personalities to shine through.

We could go on for hours describing every gorgeous detail from this special day – but we think the emotive photos captured perfectly by the talented team at Terralogical really do speak louder than words. Keep reading for all of the stunning imagery, as we chat to Nashira and Kevin about the inspiration behind their day and their experience planning a Bali wedding!

How we met: through mutual friends!
The proposal: We were jet setting a little bit last year in April for my birthday. It happened on April 20th, 2016. We had been in Morocco for a few days and on this particular day, we were headed to the middle of the Sahara (via camels!) to camp out for the night under the stars! Our guide, and now good friend Waj, had mentioned to us earlier that day that he had a surprise for us both that night- I figured maybe it was a special dinner or something of that nature…he had been so good to us thus far. So after the sunset and well into our third or fourth glass of wine and good helping of shisha, Waj told Kevin and I that our surprise was ready. He blindfolded us both and led us to the top of a sand dune about 30 feet high! We all kept tripping and falling along the way up and were just cracking up and having the best time. Once we reached the top, he said I could remove my blindfolds and there was Kevin, on one knee, asking me to marry him. It was so beautiful- there were tea candles lit everywhere and the stars were UNREAL- all of my favorite things and the person I love most in this world asked me to spend the rest of our lives together. It was one of the best days of my entire life!

The rings: Our good friends own a jewelry shop and custom designed my 2 wedding bands which were made to have a vintage flair. The white gold stands for friendship, the yellow gold represents loyalty, and the rose gold stands for true love.
Honeymoon Details: We took a group honeymoon with 50 of our guests to Gili T! It was nice to spend extra time with them after the wedding has passed and show them some fun on the party island! We spent 3 nights there. Our official honeymoon hasn’t happened yet, but we are taking 6 months off to travel the world together in April 2018.

The final part…
Where did you find your styling inspiration for your Bali wedding?
I used Pinterest to get me started, but mostly I got inspiration from Wedding pages on Instagram (like ‘The Bali Bride!!!’) that are based in Bali. We combined all of our favourite things; for me it’s romance and lots flowers and lots of colour. That’s where the “Boho Trop” theme came from. For Kevin it’s chill vibes, dancing and cigars, so we had that too!

What was the hardest part about planning a destination wedding? I actually didn’t find it too hard haha! I trusted Kira so much and I didn’t have to go crazy with the small details because I would send her design briefs and she just knew where to source everything and had it all under control.
I was able to focus on details like making our invitations and save the dates beautiful and something worth holding onto. I also put lots of love into our welcome bags- I wanted everyone to feel as special as we felt that they were coming to our wedding, so there was a lot of customisation involved and they all just loved it! Kevin would just come home and see me at it and tell me how proud he was of me and how much he loved my style J He kind of sat back and let me do my thing with that kind of stuff. The only thing that was a bit challenging was that I took on the role of travel agent. I just wanted to make everything as easy as possible for our guests- I felt it was the least I could do! I organized a group flight for about 40 of our guests. I handled accommodations, deposits, and a section of our wedding website was dedicated to everything to know about Bali, some of our favourite places in town and what to do. I wouldn’t recommend this for everyone; it can definitely be stressful and drive you crazy! But I think my love of traveling helped a lot, and it also makes my heart full to help people! Kevin was so supportive throughout the process- back rubs, ice cream and yummy takeout for those long sleepless nights!!

Why did you choose Bali as your wedding destination? Kevin and I weren’t in a rush to start wedding planning. The one thing we did know was that we wanted a destination wedding. Here in the US, or at least in New Jersey, a destination wedding usually means heading down to the Caribbean islands but we wanted to do something a little bit different and most importantly share our love of travel with our family and friends. There are so many places that we’ve been to that we just say “Man, I wish so and so were here to see this!” I stumbled across a wedding in Bali and just fell so in love! I showed it to Kev and he was amazed. It was so our style and the lightbulbs just went on for us! Once we discussed it with our families and realized everyone was eager and on board, we started planning away! We have such an amazing and solid group of friends who are basically family to us and our families are so supportive and always have our backs and follow our lead. We are very lucky! It’s not every day that you get 57 people to fly over 10,000 miles across the world to see you say “I Do”.

How did you stay organised while planning a destination wedding? I made lots of PowerPoints! It was the most helpful and efficient way for me to get my ideas across to Kira. Because of the 12 hour time difference, it wasn’t always easy to get on the phone or Skype, so emailing was our preferred method of being in touch. I also had a handy dandy planning notebook, and a wedding folder on my laptop organised by contracts, inspiration, due dates, etc.
