Jenieka and Jack’s Colourful Bali Wedding at Sungai Tinggi Beach Villa in Canggu

Jenieka and Jack’s Colourful Bali Wedding at Sungai Tinggi Beach Villa in Canggu

Real Bali Wedding: Jenieka & Jack, Sungai Tinggi Villa in Canggu | The Bali Bride Wedding Directory

Jenieka and Jack first crossed paths in high school, but it wasn’t until many years later that their romance began to blossom after a day at the races. These guys decided to plan their dream wedding in Canggu, Bali – not just one of their favourite holiday locations, but a place they knew their friends and family would fall in love with, too.

Drawing inspiration from the landscapes and surroundings of Bali itself (along with Jenieka’s self-described “pinning like a mad woman”!), these two created a destination wedding to remember at the luxury Sungai Tinggi Beach Villa. Working closely with the talented wedding planning team at Hitch’d, their day was a heartfelt celebration filled with colourful styling, vibrant blooms and thoughtful, personalised details.

One of our favourite elements from this intimate celebration would have to be Jenieka & Jack’s poolside ceremony overlooking the ocean. Not only was their ceremony decked out with incredible decor from our friends at Bali Event Hire (including one seriously epic neon backdrop!), but it was written and conducted by their brother-in-law, making the whole experience even more special.

Following their flower-filled ceremony, beachfront bridal portraits were captured underneath the prettiest afternoon light, while guests enjoyed a relaxed cocktail hour in the villa garden. An alfresco reception was brought to life underneath a canopy of greenery and pendant lights, with some of our favourite pieces from the Bali Event Hire range. U-shaped dining tables and bench seats created a warm and intimate vibe, with tropical tablescapes adorned with crisp white decor, vibrant blooms and luxe gold details.

We love that Jenieka and Jack weren’t afraid to buck tradition and design a day that reflected “them” – swapping cake for alcoholic ice pops, and gifting guests turkish towels, luggage tags and personalised beer coolers with their very own caricatures. As the sun set over the villa, guests enjoyed a night of delicious food and dancing under the stars, with every moment captured by Alma Photography. So much fun!

Check out all of the gorgeous details from this colourful Canggu wedding below, along with the incredible team of Bali suppliers involved. Plus, Jenieka and Jack share their words of advice on how to stay organised while planning the perfect Bali wedding.

How we met:

Jack and I had known each other since high school, I was in the year above him so didn’t take too much notice of him – APPARENTLY, he took notice of me haha! It wasn’t until we ran into each other many years later (at the local races) that a romance blossomed…

The proposal:

It was a very sunny Sunday that Jack asked if I’d like to go on a picnic with him. After a very long and silent drive (he was very nervous) from Brisbane to Brunswick Heads, at our favourite spot in Bruns, with a shaky voice he asked me to marry him.

Wedding date: 9/6/2018

Wedding Venue: Sungai Tinggi Beach Villa

Total Guests: 48, immediate family and our best mates

Our style/Inspiration: Bali itself! We’ve always loved Bali, It’s such a beautiful country filled with the most gorgeous people.

Who we couldn’t have done it without: Our amazing wedding planners Bre and Kira from Hitch’d!

Advice for future Bali Brides: Don’t fall down the rabbit hole of trying to make every single person happy. Do what feels right for you and your partner first then everything ends up falling into place.

Wedding Planner/Stylist: Hitch’d – Found via The Bali Bride’s Instagram page, loved everything they were doing!

Décor/Furniture:  Bali Event Hire – recommended by Hitch’d, I fell in love with the Mexi-arch right away!

Flowers/Florist: Sandat Floral – recommended by Hitch’d – they were absolutely incredible and went above and beyond anything I had envisioned.

Hair & Make-up: Ranny from Ranny the Bronzer – Ranny is such an insanely talented MUA and just an all round top human – her and her team made me and my girls feel like Beyoncé’s all day.

Photography: Alma – Hitch’d recommended a few photographers/videographers and we instantly loved Alma’s style.

Videography: Alma

Favors: Basket bag containing a Turkish towel for the recovery pool party the following day, a beer cooler with a caricature of our wedding day, bug spray and personalized luggage tags by Sketch & Etch for each of our guests.

Celebrant: We decided it would be easier to complete the legalities in Australia after the wedding and hiring someone who barely knew Jack or I to conduct something so special to us never sat right with us. Our Brother in law co-wrote and conducted our ceremony for us, which made it much more intimate and special.

Catering: Peloton Super Shop & Kaki Lima

Cake/Dessert: Jack and I are not huge fans of cake – we decided on alcoholic ice blocks by Madpops & a local fruit platter.

Stationery/Invitations: Save the dates by Etsy and printed by Vista Print then opted for a website via Riley & Grey.

Entertainment: Kacir Duniake – a local band recommended by the lovely ladies from Kaki Lima, Kacir and his band were insane!

Transport: Most of our guests stayed around the Canggu location so local drivers and Bluebird taxis

Gift Registry: We were always aware of the expenses involved in attending a destination wedding. Having our nearest and dearest with us on our special day was the greatest gift of all, we asked for nothing further.

Wedding Songs:
Down the Aisle – Childish Gambino’s cover of “So Into You” by Tamia
Signing We didn’t sign a register but played “You’ve Got The Love” by Florence and the Machine after we kissed.
Announcement – “This Must Be The Place” – by Talking Heads, my Husbands favourite song!

Where did you find your styling inspiration for your Bali wedding? Pinterest! I pinned like a mad woman.

What was the hardest part about planning a destination wedding? My husband was away working in Egypt so I flew completely solo with the wedding planning. I also work full time in the mining industry so doing 12 hour days and going back to my room to wedding plan was really hard work.

Why did you choose Bali as your wedding destination? We love Bali and knew our family and friends would also.

How did you stay organised while planning a destination wedding? Having a wedding planner! And I’m also a notoriously organised…OCD…person…

Budget: $30,000

Actual Cost: $30,000
